Oh heavens, no, I think I have dramatically misrepresented my own position! *flails in panic* It is not that I do not think she should be allowed to write more books, or even that I am not excited to read more books! Because I am! I just worry that since her very first books were such impossibly large successes, beyond that which I have seen any other book series achieve in my lifetime, she has come to hold very high standards of herself! And she seems like a very nice person, and it distresses me to think that if she publishes her next books and they are not as popular - because how could they be! - she will be sad, or maybe even disappointed in herself! But she shouldn’t be, because it wouldn’t be her fault, because she’s sort of… set herself up for failure by being too impossibly awesome the first time around. It’s not so much that I want to forbid her from writing more books as that I wish she had been intrinsically content with her achievements to date, so that she would sit back and be smugly self-satisfied with her VAST AND ADMIRABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS rather than trying to do more and maybe making herself sad, because a sad J.K.Rowling is a very sad thing indeed.

Essie, the happiness of JK Rowling is….. not your concern? Clearly you’re worried for her emotional well-being, but she is a grown-ass woman, I think she can look after herself. I think, additionally, she is clever enough to know this new book will likely not match Harry Potter in terms of reception, and if she’s prepared to venture back into publishing, she’s prepared to deal with the consequences. Her being, hypothetically, sad is not your problem.

& speaking writer-wise, I can’t imagine anyone being content to rest on their laurels, however well-deserved? Wouldn’t you just get all itchy and bored and bleh until you started creating things again??? I WOULD.
